I've put a similar post in book nooks, but figured I might put it here as well, sorry if we aren't supposed to do that...
I'm going to do a course in professional children's writing, so I'm doing a little research into what different age groups like to read.
I've heard and read that infants like picture books, toddlers like educational (alphabet, counting) books, pre-schoolers like short stories...
But I'm more interested in what your kids like to read about. Do they prefer books about every day activities that they can relate to? animals? pets? other kids? or do they prefer completely made up fantisy type stuff.
If you are willing to help me in my research, you can respond here, or send me a private message. all I need is the age and gender of your child or a child you know, and the kinds of books they are interested in.
it's been my experience that kids of all ages, even in elementary school and beyond love any kind of book when it is read to them. my grand daughter is three, and loves all kinds of stories with real people and animals in them. she loves the corduroy books and books about life on the farm, animals to pat etc. her baby brother doesn't care as long as he is read too. he's four months old. my son says, when the kid is crying for no discernible reason, he'll pick up a manual for the car or the computer and read it to him and a droning monotonous voice. works every time. kids will understand books that are far above their so called age level if they are read to. i remember being a kid in kindergargen and having my mom read books like laura ingles to me.
